Save time in the Kitchen

Save time in the Kitchen

Dinner time doesn’t have to be a 2 hour ordeal every night. A few simple strategies can help you save time in the kitchen. Although I’m a Chef I’m a Mom first and the last thing I have time for is 2 hours in the kitchen everynight of washing, prepping & cooking dinner every night.

Here is what I do to get in and out of the kitchen but still keep my family healthy.

  • Stock your freezer. On my down time usually on the weekends. I’ll cook up a ton of chicken cutlet, grilled chicken, cooked veggies, brown rice & I freeze it all.

  • My other big help is cooking 4 different soups all at once. I do this just once a month it takes about 1-1/2 – 2 hours depending on what kind of soups I’m cooking. This is great to pull out for lunch throughout the week and dinner also. Since I make 4 different kinds I never get bored of having the same kind of soup for lunch or dinner because I rotate them.

  • Chop your fruit. No one in my house will eat the fruit I buy unless I wash it, dice it & have it readily available for them. When I do this they devour the fruit I buy. It saves me time in the kitchen because I’m not pulling out the cutting board & knife everyday. It also gets them eating healthy on a regular basis.

  • Keep pesto readily available to use. Pesto can be made in so many variations. The traditional basil pesto, red pepper pesto, sundried tomato pesto & you can just go on from there. If your looking for a great pesto that doesn’t have any cheese in it try my kale pesto recipe. What many people don’t know is that pesto can be stored in your refrigerator for up to a week. You can also freeze pesto for up to 6 months. Pesto is great tossed with some pasta, drizzled on fish or chicken or even on some soup for added flavor. Either way you use it it’s a great way to save time in the kitchen by throwing a last minute meal together that will impress just about anyone.
